Rainbow Cardigan for Adults

Adult Modular Cardigan / Jacket, beta pattern release

Our latest Woolly Madly Deeply original pattern,  with a great fanfare (well me waving madly and excitedly!), is the Adult Modular Cardigan / Jacket.    Sized from 34″ to a 58″ finished chest measurement and knitted in garter stitch it’s designed to be worn with 0-4 inches of positive ease.   As the name suggests it’s modular in construction, but differs slightly to the baby version, not least in size.      I’ve added a few inches of length before you knit the mitred square on the back to ensure it’s long enough for all sizes, but if you prefer a cropped ‘Chanel’ style, then feel free to miss out knitting those extra inches and think about narrower sleeves.

The pattern is free with purchases of the Creative & Filz yarn or the Murano Lace yarn.  Yarn requirements are listed below.    Add the recommended yarn to your order and we’ll email you the pdf once your order is received and processed.    We’ll do this automatically for all purchases of one or more balls of Murano Lace and two or more of the Creative & Filz, so no need to add any codes or comments to your order.

We’re currently test knitting, so you’ll receive the final version sometime next week.   It’s been proofed and checked but is having a final edit and run through.     After that, the pattern will be available for sale.

It’s a drop shoulder style, so easy to dress up or down and looks fantastic in the Creative & Filz 02 Rainbow colourway, its 100% wool and feels scrumptious.     We have more on order but they are selling fast.   A great alternative, using a 57% wool/43% acrylic blend, is the Murano Lace.  It’s also worsted weight (for British Knitters that is between Double Knit and Aran thickness).   It has a more subtle stripe and if you check out the yarn, there are some finished garment photos to show you how it looks knitted or crocheted in the various colours.      This one comes in 100g balls and is great value.     If you’d like to make a plain version or use an acrylic yarn for a machine washable jacket, try Vanna’s Choice, the colour range is lovely.

Garter stitch is super easy, it’s pretty much just knits all the way but it’s also really forgiving.  If you have curves, and I have more than I’d like, then garter will gently wrap around and hug them.    It stretches over lumps and bumps and never tells your secrets.

A few hints and tips for this one:

  • Always slip the first stich and purl the last stitch of every row, it gives a nice neat edge for picking up your loops for the next part of the jacket.
  • Check your tension, if you have too many rows and/or stitches per inch, then use a smaller needle or knit a smaller size.
  • Measure regularly.   As you knit the fronts, measure their length against the back piece so you don’t end up with one longer than the other.
  • If you get stuck, drop me an email and ask, I’m more than happy to help you.

All the Austermann yarns have 10% with the coupon code AU10 at the checkout.  You have to go into the checkout process itself, so if you enter the code too soon, you’ll get a message to ask you to wait until the next step so you can either register or login first.  Once that’s done, you can enter your code and the discount will be applied to your order.

Adult Modular Cardigan

Pattern due on Wednesday 16th May.   We’re busy proof reading and tech editing to hopefully catch any errors or instructions which aren’t as clear as I’d like.       I’m really pleased with this one.   The chosen yarns are Creative & Filz in 02 Rainbow and Murano Lace (another worsted self striping but more subtle), here are the colours.

Here’s a swatch of the Creative & Filz, gorgeous isn’t it?    The cardigan will take roughly 1100yds of worsted weight yarn for the smallest size and goes up to a 54inch finished chest measurement.       The pdf pattern will be free with the yarn purchase or available for separate download.

If you required a printed pattern there will be a charge for this as we post them in a cardboard sleeve and it involves printing 12 pages in colour which adds to both time and postage weight.

If you download the pdf you can print it whenever you need it and make notes as you go along for any modifications.

Tension is 16sts x 30 rows over 4inches on 5.5mm needles.
